Outlander Series

I'm going to take a small break from showing projects and tell you about a series of books that I absolutely adore! Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series of seven books so far just makes my heart skip a beat!

If you enjoy the first book you must keep going. The characters develop with even more intensity and new ones come to life. Each book continues the lives and trials of James and Clare Fraser. This mix of Sci-Fi historical and romance is thrilling. Diana's gift for bringing words to life so you can imagine smells, colors, fear, anticipation and love is amazing! Her deep historical study of life in 1740's Scotland to the 1940's is brilliant. She is not afraid of writing about the horrors of life in prison during war, some parts which may shock you. Life back then was definitely different then it is now, so many hardships and personal struggles that none of us today would ever dream of having to live through. I give this series a 5 star rating absolutely wonderful!

List of books in order
Outlander
Dragonfly in Amber
Voyager
Drums of Autumn
The Fiery Cross
A Breath of Snow and Ashes
An Echo in the Bone

You can read in Diana's own words about her descriptions of the books here.

Have a great Saturday!

Thrift find

Last weekend while browsing sales I came across this piece. It needed some love and so I brought it home.
Someone had painted over the laminate green it use to be and did not do it right.
It was painted cream with some kind of darker coffee looking stuff yuk
I began by sanding down the table top. It had scratches and looked like whiteout spilled in places.
Then using Citristrip I removed the paint.
Here is what it looks like 5 hours later.. ewww!
Now begins the task of scraping all the paint and green laminate off
This is what I need to get down to the dull green is all thats left
After removing all the paint I then sanded everything the shelves and molding top and the table part.
Ok So yesterday while hubs and I were cleaning and rearranging the shop he paused to look over what I've been working on. He picked up my new little mouse sander and did some sanding. Somehow he broke it!!!!!
OMG the horror!!! LOL Luckily it was just bought last week and I still have box and receipt! Well until I get a new one this project is on hold. I know growing up we were taught to share but I might be having second thoughts when it comes to my project tools LOL!

Have a great day!

Week #3 Challenge Recipe Binder

I know I'm a little late at getting this out there but here is Week #3 Challenge Recipe Binder from A Bowl Full of Lemons. Click the Link and join us as new organizational projects are posted each Sunday!

I inherited my grandmothers recipe collection and have decided to leave it exactly as she left it. Very neat and organized with each card typed and slipped inside a plastic protective sleeve. She also had a small red binder with what I believe was her most used recipes. My recipes are stored inside my laptop and I would need more printer ink to print everything to put in a binder! So here I share with you how she organized her recipes.

Each card she hand typed on the typewriter and put inside plastic protective sleeves

Everything in its place

Inside the small red binder recipes are hand written, typed and clipped from magazines.

I'll cherish these forever well until I pass them down eventually :)

Beautiful Saturday!!

Had fun this morning browsing sales alone! Bought some material and half off picture frames at Hobby Lobby came home and made some new bedroom decor. They will hang over the nightstands on the appropriate sides of course, got this idea from pictures I seen on another blog. I used a pencil and traced the letters onto the material then embroidery the letters.

Mounted the material in the frames and this project is done!
Picked up another item and will have pictures of it tomorrow. I must go and wrap my mothers birthday gift!

Ready for this weekend!!

After being stuck and I mean really stuck at home for 4 days because of the ice and snow I'm ready to look at garage sales this weekend. Weather is expected to be in the 70's!!! I'm desperately looking for a china hutch to repurpose. I know we just remodeled the kitchen but I have an entire wall with nothing but a window. I think an old china hutch redone is just the trick for adding a little more storage and put something along that wall. I'm needing a new coffee table, and possibly two low dressers to serve as a new TV stand and a front entry way table/storage. Hopefully I have luck in finding something!
